Channels: • characters - Used by players to manage their characters. Each player should only post once, then edit their post as they track changes to their character. • water-cooler - Any “Out of Character” (OOC) discussion, on- or off-topic. • the-story-so-far - All “In Character” (IC) posts. When the adventure is complete, this should be read like a story. All posts should be in third-person language (i.e. “Morgan Ironwolf attacks the goblin on the left”, neverI attack the goblin”) • pre-gens - Managed by the DM, contains pre-generated characters and equipment packs that can be used if a player does not want to generate their own character • dice-rolls - Used for rolling all dice during the adventure. The Dice Maiden (https://top.gg/bot/377701707943116800) Discord Bot is used for rolling dice. Dice rolls here can be seen by all players and the DM. • house-rules - Managed by the DM, outlines the rules for play
map-thread - Managed by the DM, always contains the latest map, to make it easier for everyone to find without scrolling backward through the story thread

Dice Maiden is a simple to use dice rolling bot perfect for any trpg sessions.

Base Rules: Basic Dungeons & Dragons - Any of the following may be used: • B/X - Moldvay Basic (1981) - just be careful, this adventure, “The Haunted Keep” is detailed on pages 55-60, no peeking!BECMI - Mentzer Basic (1983) - minor revision of B/X, major addition of CMI • Rules Cyclopedia - Allston Basic (1991) - This will be the authoritative version, as there are minor differences between each revision, and I have a physical copy, so I prefer this version • Dark Dungeons - Blacky the Blackball (2010) - A free retro-clone of BECMI, get a pdf free from: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/177410/Dark-Dungeons
Dark Dungeons is a retro-clone role-playing game - a game in the style of old-school 1980's and 1990's role-playing game

Game Play/Post Rules: • Getting Ready - Players post their characters in the #characters channel, introduce themselves and their characters and agree on a standard marching order • Next Step - DM will make a post labeled “Next Step”, which will outline an advancement of the story and optionally, special requirements for the player’s next posts • Character Posts - characters will post in response to the “Next Step” post, and provide standard dice rolls as required by the DM - standard dice rolls and post format still TBD at this time • Timing - At a minimum, one post is required each day by each character. If a player cannot post for some reason, no big deal, the DM will make dice rolls and perform actions on behalf of the character in “auto-pilot” mode. Players and DM may post more than once per day, and be as wordy or concise as you want to be. • Be Flexible - My intent with daily posts is that it should take less time than you do playing Wordle on a daily basis. Real life is more important than any RPG, so don’t let this game add anxiety or stress to your real life, don't post if you don't have the time on any given day. This is intended for fun, so let’s make it fun! • Advice - If you’ve never played a PBP game before, there's a lot of advice out there. This is new to me too, which is why I want to try this out on a small, short adventure. That said, here is some advice that I found: https://www.rpglibrary.org/articles/faqs/pbem.php (PBEM is a specific form of PBP, but I think the advice is still good) • Improvement - As mentioned earlier, I’m trying something new. If you have suggestions on how to improve the rules or play format, please post them in the #water-cooler channel. (edited)

Standard Dice Rolls and Post Format: In this type of play, if you're posting only once a day, the adventure doesn't advance very far very quickly. By having you each roll dice for situations that may occur, it'll help the game flow better than if we were messaging back and forth a lot. I'll only use your dice rolls when necessary. • For Combat Rounds, we'll do up to 2 rounds at a time. Roll: • Initiative: 2d6 - we'll use the optional individual initiative rule • Attack: 2d20 - this is your "to hit" roll (remember these rules use descending AC) • Damage: 2d4 or 2d6 or 2d8 - based on which weapon is used. Note that if your character switches weapons between rounds, the damage die may change (Ex: 1d6 for short bow, then 1d8 for sword) • Saving Throws or Misc: 2d20 - will only be used if necessary • Description: Describe what your character will attempt in the next 2 combat rounds, be creative! • For Turns (Non-combat), we'll just cover one action or activity at a time. Roll: • Environment: 1d20 - covers situations that may occur to your character in the environment, such as your character stumbling into a trap (low die roll), or avoiding a trap (high die roll) • Activity: 1d20 - covers any activity that you want your character to perform, such as searching for traps, listening at doors, walking a tight-rope, etc. • Surprise: 1d6 - for when you encounter a monster/creature • Saving Throw or Misc: 1d20 - will only be used if necessary to cover miscellaneous situations • Description: Describe what your character will attempt to do in the next step Summary: • For combat, roll 2d6, 4d20, 2d{damage}, and describe • For non-combat, roll 1d6, 3d20, and describe (edited)
